Mom... I'm... a Vegetarian

Yes. Surprisingly enough, this blood thirsty carnivore is a Vegetarian now. Well, kind of. That's just the typical meal here in Costa Rica (known as Casado). The first 5 days of this trip I don't think I even saw as much as one piece of meat. Rice and beans, rice and beans, rice and beans. All day, every day. No complaints though, these people can COOK! Throughout my stay in San Jose with my couch surfing host, I've so far experienced traditional Costa Rican, Bolivian, and Brazilian dishes, all meat free.

So anyways, my last day in San Jose consisted mostly of being (seemingly) locked out of the apartment. I say seemingly because apparently I just couldn't seem to grasp the concept that keys can turn both ways (well, I tried both ways, but apparently only tried to turn the key hard to the left. turns out it's hard to the right...) So there I was, aimlessly walking the streets of San Jose by myself for the next 8 hours. Luckily my host and his friends have been helping me to improve my Spanish to the point where I'm no longer asking people "where is the diaper" among other phrases I'm sure thoroughly confused the locals. The trip was made much more enjoyable when I found out you could by 6 packs of pre-mixed rum and coke for about $5. When I finally made it back into the apartment my host had decided to throw a small party that night which pretty much involved people (playfully) making fun of my shitty Spanish, a little guitar playing, and a whole lot of chess. 10 people, one room, all playing / watching chess for 4 hours (this is a good thing in case you are wondering) A few pics from my walk around below. More to come later.
